Our families and community invest huge resources into inspiring our teenagers to choose to lead a Torah lifestyle. However, the experiential educators in our yeshiva high schools, summer camp, youth groups and shuls have no opportunity to compare and share what's working with this generation (and what's not working) .
In 2010 and 2011, NCSY ran a conference called Youthcon, at which educators from schools, camps, shuls, and organizations shared innovative ideas and learned about trends in religious identity. Over 400 professionals participated in 2011.
TEN has approached NCSY and offered to take the lead in reviving this critical program. The world in general changing rapidly, and this is doubly true for teenagers.
An impressive Planning Committee has been formed and includes Rabbi Dovid Bashevkin and Rina Emerson (NCSY), Shira Englander and Rabbi Perry Tirschwell (TEN), Rachel Abrahams (Avi Chai), Dr. Naomi Lev (Bilvavi), Bini Dachs, Rabbi Dan Katz and Shlomo Stern (Bnei Akiva), Jeremy Joszef (Camp Morasha), Rabbi Ari Katz (Camp Mesorah), Rabbi Efrem Goldberg (Boca Raton Synagogue), Rabbi Judah Mischel (Camp HASC, NCSY), Rocky Selevan (Camp Shoshanim), Rabbi Natan Farber (DRS), Rabbi Tzvi Sinensky (Kushner), Rabbi David Kimche (KYHS), Shuki Taylor (M2), Rabbi Eitan Lipstein (Moriah School), Rabbi Eli Slomnicki (Ramaz), Rabbi David Block (Shalhevet), Russi Shor (Yavneh Academy), Rabbi Shalom Axelrod (Young Israel of Woodmere), Rabbi Dov Emerson (YUHSB), Leah Moskovich (YUHSG), Jordana Wertheimer (YULA), People who would like to join these efforts should email ShiraEnglander@yahoo.com.
